Who We Are

Our Mission Statement

Our mission…

is to develop disciples who reflect Christ’s love through worship, fellowship and service.

Our Church History

The Western Reserve United Methodist Church was created in 1965 by the merger of two former Methodist congregations. The Cornersburg Church was located one mile from our present location and the Epworth Church that was located on the south side of Youngstown. The new congregation was relocated in Canfield, Ohio.

Today, the Western Reserve United Methodist Church is determined to reach new generations with the Gospel. The church offers three services on Sunday morning, each one tailored to speak to various generations.

During the summer months, the early worship service takes place in our outdoor chapel, Woodland Haven.

We are committed to being a church that is in the disciple-making business.

For Our Visitors

Frequently Asked Questions

What do United Methodists believe?

As a part of the worldwide United Methodist Church family, we follow a set of Bible-based, God inspired beliefs set forth by our denomination. To learn more about our beliefs, CLICK HERE.

Where should I park? Is there handicapped parking available?

There is ample parking in our parking lot. For the 9:15 Sunday service or for activities in the fellowship hall, park on the South side of the church (left side as you come in the driveway). For the 11:00 Sunday service, choir practice or Bible study, park on the North side of the church (right side as you come in the driveway).  Handicapped spaces are available on both sides of the church. All church entrances are handicap accessible.

What should I expect?

Worship is the central act of the people of God. At Western Reserve the written word of God and the preached word of God are central to our worship experiences. Each service is designed to help you live out the Christian faith. Our goal is to help you have a clearer understanding of God’s purpose for your life.

Western Reserve offers two different worship services each Sunday morning (three during the summer months). Each is designed to appeal to different generations and tastes. While the package may change, the Gospel message remains the same. Holy Communion is served at all services on the first Sunday of each month. All services are handicap accessible.

8:30 am: Outdoor Worship (Memorial Day through Labor Day)

During the summer we have an early traditional service in our Woodland Haven chapel (directly behind the church). In the event of rain, the service is held in the Sanctuary.

9:15 am: T.O.G.G.L.E. (Touch of God Giving Life Eternal)

Our contemporary service is located in the church’s fellowship hall. This service began in 2001 and is called T.O.G.G.L.E. It is an acronym for Touch of God Giving Life Eternal. The music is led by the praise team, and the message is delivered by the pastor. Imagines are projected on a large screen to involve all our senses as we praise our perfect Savior, Jesus. The service ends at approximately 10:30.

11:00 am: Traditional Worship

Our traditional service is located in the main sanctuary. The music is led by our Choir Director Mark Halls and our outstanding chancel choir. We keep the traditions of the past alive, as we discover what God has for us today. This service lasts approximately one hour, and a nursery is available.

Western Reserve also offers a variety of seasonal services to meet your spiritual needs. Check the calendar page for more information.

Do you serve Communion?

Holy Communion is served at all Sunday services on the first Sunday of the month. All believers are welcome to take part regardless of age or church affiliation.

What should I wear?

Casual attire is acceptable at all services.

Is there Sunday School?

Western Reserve Church offers Sunday School classes for all ages, from 9:30-10:30 AM on Sunday mornings, September through May. Each student learns about Jesus at their own level.  Nursery care is available for the very young during both the 9:15 and the 11:00 worship service.

All children are invited to attend the TOGGLE service in the Fellowship Hall at 9:15 AM, where they will join in a few praise and worship songs, then hear a children’s message at approximately 9:25 AM. The children will then be shepherded to their age-appropriate classrooms.

For more information, contact the church office.

Is there Children's Church or a Nursery?

Nursery care is available for the very young during both the 9:15 and the 11:00 worship service.
